Hello dear readers,
This is the first post of the white lassi open source project. For all readers who are visiting this blog for the first time, this is a nice place to start reading.
White lassi is a project specifically targeted towards developing services for the IMS and VoIP domain. It is a converged service delivery platform.
The IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is a third generation telecom network infrastructre built upon the packet switched domain. It is a successor of VoIP networks, with the exception that with IMS, the procedures and processes to do things are more well defined and standardized. IMS is currently being standardized by 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project).
However, the focus of this project is more towards the IMS services plane. With the advent of IMS, it is believed that high bandwidth services will indeed become a reality for the consumer. IMS is an accesss independent middleware which supports rich services that leverage it.
This project aims to design and develop such innovative services for the telecom industry. These services can be SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) based services, web services, or even innovative web 2.0 mashups. We plan to build these services on top of standardized SDP frameworks such as SIP Servlets (JSR 289) and JSLEE (JSR 240).
A simplified view of the IMS telco infrastructure is shown in the figure above. The focus area for whitelassi is the IMS application services plane.
On a lighter note…..most of us would be wondering what white lassi means ?? Here is a quick byte from Wikipedia:
“Lassi is a popular and traditional Indian drink originating from the Punjab region. It is made by blending yogurt with water, salt, pepper, ice and spices until frothy. Traditional lassi is sometimes flavored with ground roasted cumin. Lassi is also available as sweet with sugar.”
If you guys need any clarifications or any ideas….feel free to drop in a message here. I will reply ASAP.
Contributors are most welcome. You can contribute in any way you feel…like…coding…designing..documenting…or even by suggesting an innovative service that we can pursue together.
